What are the penalties for a person 18 years of age or older in York with less than 30 grams (one ounce) of cannabis or less than 8 grams of Hash and is smoking it in a public space (a street, alley, park, sidewalk, a vehicle in or upon any street, alley, park or parking area, or any other place to which the public is invited).​

The penalties for a person in York over 18 years of age who possess less than 30 grams of cannabis or less than 8 grams of Hash and is caught smoking it in a public space are

a fine of $150 for the first time;

a fine of $300 for the second time; and

a fine of $600 for the third time caught.

The court may remove this fine if the person in trouble agrees to do community service.
