What does Joint and Several Liability mean?

Joint and Several Liability means that co-tenants share the liabilities and responsibilities for each others actions. A landlord can request the total rent amount from just one of the co-tenants. Additionally, both tenants are subject to the punishments, including termination, even if the violation was committed by just one tenant.
