Landlords may prevent tenants from using cannabis on the property. Under federal law the consumption and possession of cannabis is still illegal and landlords also have the option of making their properties smoke free of either tobacco or cannabis. In the case that the property is smoke free, tenants would have to consume cannabis by other means such as oils, edibles and tinctures. However in regard to medical marijuana, landlords are not allowed to prevent the possession of such medicine.
